SANAA, Yemen (AP) ? The New York-based Human Rights Watch says security raids by Yemeni forces on hospitals in search for suspected militants are threatening health care in the southern port city of Aden.
The group said Saturday the raids have forced one hospital to shut down and others to turn away patients in fear of violence.
The group says government forces entered two hospitals in Aden at least five times this year to arrest alleged militants without warrants, and in one case dragged a patient from the intensive care unit after pulling out drainage tubes. Some gunbattles broke out with fighters supporting suspects.
The international humanitarian organization Medicins Sans Frontieres, or Doctors Without Borders, indefinitely suspended operations at its Aden hospital after a gunfight last month. The government had no immediate comment.
