North Lincolnshire has a new Mayor to fly the flag for the district at events and functions over the coming 12 months.

Councillor Ivan Glover, from Broughton, is the area's new first citizen and the 17th person to hold that honour.

The former Deputy Mayor has stepped up to succeed Councillor Keith Vickers, of Barton, whose very successful year of office has drawn to a close.

Councillor Glover was installed as Mayor yesterday (Tuesday) at a ceremony in the Council Chamber at Scunthorpe Civic Centre.

Councillor Glover, who is one of the Broughton and Appleby ward representatives on North Lincolnshire Council, was born and raised in Broughton.

Also a town councillor, he was Town Mayor of Broughton in 2004/2005, 2005/2006 and 2010/2011.

He was elected onto North Lincolnshire Council in 2003, later serving as Cabinet Member for Housing and Leisure.

Councillor Glover has worked for the community as governor of Broughton Infants' School and as treasurer of Broughton St Mary's Parochial Church Council.

He was a local government officer for 46 years until November 2001.?

Half of that time was spent as a chief officer or as the chief executive in a principal authority.

Councillor Glover will be accompanied by his wife, Anne, the Mayoress, at official events during his year of office. They have been married for more than 50 years.

The new Deputy Mayor of North Lincolnshire is Ferry ward's Councillor Peter Clark, of Barrow.

Councillor Clark was born and educated in Brigg.?

He was a councillor on Glanford Borough Council from 1991 to 1995 and has served on North Lincolnshire Council since 1999.?

He worked for Total Lindsey Oil Refinery for 31 years and is now retired.?

He is chairman of Barrow Parish Council and chairman of Barrow Playing Field Committee.?

Councillor Glover said: "Being Mayor and Mayoress is a very special occasion for me and my wife, Anne.? It is a pleasure and a real privilege to be given such an honour.? I hope people get behind us in supporting our chosen and very worthy charities ? Lindsey Lodge Hospice and Cancer Research UK."

Councillor Clark said: "I am very proud and honoured to be the Deputy Mayor and ambassador for North Lincolnshire. I look forward to carrying out my duties with real enthusiasm and determination."

It is usual practice for a Deputy Mayor to become Mayor the following May.
